Roy Yost of Redwood City CA. passed away on Tuesday morning June 20 2023 at 11:00am. Surrounded by his family, loved ones and friends. Roy had a stroke on May 25th He fought so hard to stay with us he just loved life so much. Roy was born in Minneapolis Minnesota on 12-21-1948 to Roy Yost Sr. and Marie Lunzer Yost of Minneapolis Minnesota. Minnesota was too cold for Roy so as soon as he turned of age he set forth for California Where he knew there would be rust free cars waiting for him. Roy became a Manufacturing Engineer and Graduated from The University of San Francisco. Roy then landed a job at Variant of Palo Alto and worked there for many years. Roy also worked for Visa in the latter part in his life. Roy retired early at 55 so he got to enjoy quite a bit of his hobbies for many years Roy was also time member of the “Golden Gate Lionel Railroad Club” and the “Golden State Toy Operators Club” as well as a lifelong member of the “Studebaker Driver’s club” I don’t know what he loved more Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Singing or Girls.. Roy sang with “The Barbershop Chorus” as well as “Sound Judgement” “The Golden Chords men.” “The Fault Line Chorus” and lastly “The Treble Makers.” Roy didn’t let the grass grow underneath his feet he was always moving Making friends everywhere he went. It fills our hearts with so much joy knowing what a loved man he was. Roy had a wonderful life lots of friend that loved him. Roy will be dearly missed by many. There will be a Celebration of his life sometime in the next few weeks so please check back on this site for more information.

Jun 18, 2023Roy Yost

Members of MPOTAC:

A few weeks ago Roy Yost (Radio Roy) recently suffered a stroke that left his right side paralyzed and unable to communicate clearly. He seemed to be improving when he developed pneumonia and is now in hospice care at Sequoia Hospital. I went to see him yesterday and he did recognize me. He nodded when I asked him some questions, and he gave a big smile when I sang him part of the song “Dream” (by the Everly Brothers). He used to sing that song with his acapella group.

Roy is a life-long collector of Studebakers,  as well as model trains.

We hope he will recover from this debilitating health episode.

Tanya Pomposo, Health and Welfare Chairperson

Apr 22, 2022Charlie Drechsler Obituary

Charles Edward Drechsler Sr., known as “Charlie” by all his friends, passed in his sleep on April 14, 2022, at Stanford Hospital.  He was born May 24, 1937, in Washington, D.C., raised in Virginia and Maryland, and moved his young family West to pursue his 35-year career with United Airlines.  Charlie was a 55-year resident of San Mateo County.  He was a loving husband and father and is preceded in death by his wife Sandra, survived by his children Sandi Rocco, Debbie Mason, Charles Jr., and grand-daughters Lindsay, Brittany (with great grand-daughter Natalie), Cheryl, Sarah, and Michelle; plus his four-legged best friend Blossom.

Charlie’s fondness for restoring old cars began before the Air Force had him fixing fighter jets in Europe and continued with many years of devoted service to the Mid-Peninsula Old Time Auto Club, and the Early Ford V-8 Club of America.  He loved to help friends realize their passion for restoring automotive machinery, to celebrate America’s rolling art, and share decades of happy memories at car tours, parades, and shows.

Charlie shared his love for animals and pets with his family, with many generations of pampered pups.  He was a lifelong member of local United Methodist Churches, whether in Burlingame, CA or Tucson, AZ, where he spent winters during retirement.  His family respectfully requests donations in his memory to the CALL Primrose Center (c/o Burlingame United Methodist Church), or the Peninsula Humane Society.  Charlie’s ashes will be cast at sea at a favorite spot shared with his wife, and a celebration of life will be held for friends and family.

Apr 1, 2022Passing of Diane Dupont
I just learned that Club member Diane Dupont passed away last week. Her step-daughter Nan found her last Wednesday in her home. The coroner said she died of “cardiac deficiency”. Apparently she fainted and fell in her kitchen. Diane’s iPhone was locked and Nan was unable to contact anyone she interacted with via phone or texts. She had access to her email, however and notified those who’s addresses were listed. Roy Yost was one of those people, and then he texted me about Diane’s passing.

Diane was a “Lifetime Member” of MPOTAC because of the many tours and events she and her husband Bob hosted over many years (they joined the Club in 1983). There will be a gravesite memorial on Friday, April 8th at St. John’s Cemetery in San Mateo at 11 am.

We will miss her.

Tanya

Aug 21, 2021Sachi Kume

Bob Moll called and said he saw a sign on the front door of Sachi’s business stating it was out of business due to the owner’s  passing away, and to call this number for inquiries. He gave me the number that turned out to be her home phone. I called and talked to Mike, Sachi’s son. He told me that Sachi passed away on Wednesday, August 11 in the hospital while Mike was with her. She was 95 years old. Mike said that ever since her fall Memorial Day weekend she only could say a few words—the last he could understand was something about “Monday”. (She was probably thinking about going to work.) Doctors had diagnosed encephalitis of the brain.

We will miss Sachi who loved the car club and never missed helping to pass doughnuts out  on Friendship Day.

Tanya

Sep 26, 2020A lunch to remember

On September 23rd Hal Schuette arranged a socially distanced Cruise-In at Gigi's Cafe in Burlingame for our club. It was well attended, the lunch was good, and after eating we had a delightful round where each member described the car that was brought to the event.

Check out the flyer the Len provided, and also check out the photo gallery on the website.
